For Your Mother (and other mothers)

May 6, 2018 Batya Stepelman
MDJPEG.jpg

The best gifts are those that are personal and purchased with the recipient in mind, but I think this round-up has universal appeal and would be appreciated by any mother next Sunday (ahem, that's a reminder for my husband - and kids - who might pop on here from time to time!). Of course the gifts of love, patience, sleep, laughter and understanding should be given too...

Thank you to all the mothers who care, heal, nurture, teach, encourage and inspire us each and every day!

xx, B

1.  Ditto House through Pop Life Universe.

2. Anything from the Chocolate Lab on Colfax.

3. I'm having a mild obsession with Callahan Ceramics right now!

4. A membership or day pass to the Denver Botanic Gardens. Stroll around and take in the flowers, the pixelated sculptures by Mike Whiting, and the art by Jason DeMarte!

5. Farm Girl Flowers for the ranunculus-enthusiast (hint, hint).

6. A beautiful cushion by Edie Ure, the Boulder-based natural-dye (plant) textile and fabric star (who is also a dear friend!) . Edie hosts classes from time-to-time, so grab a coveted spot the next time one is offered.

7. The gift of craft and experience over at Fancy Tiger.

8. Wallpaper, quite possibly the best gift ever :) Willie Weston is shown here. Email us for an appointment and we'll show you what we've got!

9. Sterling-silver watermelon tourmaline earrings, or anything, from Bird Brooklyn!

10. A beautifully crafted clutch from Denver-based, Animal Handmade.

11. Send a COLORADO CRAFTED customized box filled with all sorts of locally-made products. They've got everything from lotions, chocolates, caramels, jams, totes, etc. Of course the WallTawk box is our personal favorite and 10% of all sales will be donated to local charities such as Project Worthmore, Project Angel Heart, and the Gathering Place to name a few!

12. Shesh-Besh, backgammon...whatever you call it, it's a fun game. We love this board by Wolfum.

13. Gift the mom in your life a card to a local bookshop, and then give her some time to read!

14. One of these stunning new ceramics by Cara Taylor.

15. A pollinator push garden from Modern Sprout will give her blooms all summer long! And it will help bees & butterflies, too. Win-win!

16. Can you imagine juggling the responsibilities of motherhood, while simultaneously dealing with the impacts of war, poverty, or food insecurity? I can't. The IRC, which was founded by a famous refugee named Albert Einstein, will be working with mothers directly. They have several RESCUE GIFTS , including Care for Mom and Baby and 3 Newborn Baby Kits. You can also send young girls to school for a year. Find an option that resonates with your mother and donate in her name. Believe me, she'll appreciate it.

Happy Mother's Day!

I enjoy traveling, photography, hiking, street art, design, architecture, food trucks, gardening, the cosmos, cooking with the seasons, political activism and wallpaper! I know my interests span a variety of categories, here's where they all come together.

...continuing on with the #walltawkheritagetour (see previous post) is the Iberian peninsula. And today I'll be focusing on ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ. @jaimehayon is a contemporary and modern visionary. Here ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿผ, the interiors he designed for @barcelotorredemadrid . Artwork via @klunderbie . Via @yellowtrace
I was adopted when I was 26 days old, and this past summer I took a DNA test. It's taken me a few months to absorb the information, but now I feel at peace with all my pieces โœŒ๐ŸผI'm a product of nature, nurture, and a great deal of luck! For the next week and a half I'll be sharing design and architecture from my heritage, which is an amalgamation of 11 countries and 3 continents. I'm starting with the plurality (Italy) and working my way down (in terms of percentages).
So first up, the interiors of a 150 square meter apartment in Milan, dubbed "Le Temps Retrouvรฉ." ๐Ÿƒ ๐Ÿ”‘. Architrcture by @marcantetesta ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น PC: @carolaripamonti_
Oh lawd, I'm putting the finishing touches on the November newsletter, which is really the delayed Sept/Oct newsletter! (Election Day, plus school-related fundraising, took up a lot more time than I anticipated.) This month's spotlight is @istoriainteriors ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸฝWe also included a gift guide, mood board and project highlights. Want in on the action, DM your email! Know of a great interior designer who uses lots of wallpaper, let us know below. Happy World Kindness Day, kids! Xx
I ๐Ÿ’šthis @fliepaper Peacock mural, made in Los Angeles and now up in Denver. It's beautiful. Enjoy it, Ellen! Install by Terri Trapp ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ
As we celebrate home through this business, we are mindful that so many people recently lost theirs in California's wildfires. These organizations are helping: @feedingamerica @cafirefound firefighter๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿš’If you know of other reputable (Charity Navigator) non-profits please let us know...๐Ÿ’š
Dedicating some time to a personal project...and loving on @hayche . PS: For those of you going to the Teller public school auction tonight, there's a WallTawk package you can bid on! I'll help you select wallpaper and furnishings (with special perks) and you get to help raise moolah for underfunded public school. Win, win! โœŒ๐ŸผโœŒ๐Ÿพ
In many ways the United States is politically dysfunctional, and yet tonight some great things happened: Colorado became the first state in US history to elect an openly gay Governor, Kansas elected ๐Ÿ‘†๐ŸผSharice Davids, the first Native American woman to go to Congress and the State's first openly gay rep, and Minnesota (Ilhan Omar) and Michigan (Rashida Tlaib) elected the first Muslim women to Congress. These are important milestones and they should be celebrated (and so should their platforms of truth, justice, kindness and inclusion). #vote #electionday #nativeamerican #congress #makeportraits
The first 5 states and territories to give women - but *only white* women- full or partial suffrage before the Nineteenth Amendment was passed in 1920 were Wyoming (1869), Utah (1896), Colorado (1893), Idaho (1896) and Washington (1910). By 1914, all of the states west of the Rockies had womenโ€™s suffrage, while no state did east of the Rockies, except Kansas. (I didn't know that until today.) The first women to serve in ANY state legislature were Coloradans Clara Cressingham, Carrie C. Holly and Frances S. Klock. They were all elected in 1894 to the Colorado State House of Representatives, the year after white women got the right to vote.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, when my grandmother was born in the tenements on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, women still did not have the right to vote- including her mother, grandmother, aunts and cousins.
GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!! People were jailed, beaten and even died for your right to do so. Don't squander the right to participate in your democracy! Vote like your freedoms depend on it, because they do. And if you DM or tag us with your voting sticker or dropping your ballot in the mail etc., you'll get 10% off any purchase for the month of November. It's our way of saying thanks for not sitting this one out โœŒ๐ŸผโœŒ๐ŸพโœŒ๐Ÿฟ#election2018 #electionday #midterms #ejectionday #rockthevote #vote
